JOB SUMMARY: The Nutrition Educator will plan, implement, and evaluate nutrition education programs that help individuals, families, and communities maximize and maintain a healthy lifestyle. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform administrative support tasks, prepare and file check requests, track information electronically, and file documents. Present nutrition education programs for individuals and families with low income in Kings County, including children, homeless individuals, and those with mental health issues. Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with agencies and organizations interested in nutrition and physical health education. Identify evidence-based nutrition programs/curricula for use in nutrition education series. Plant and harvest fruits and vegetables during the appropriate seasons. Maintain community garden and tend on a weekly basis. Develop nutrition education lesson plans and education materials that are culturally appropriate. Distribute nutrition and physical activity education materials, such as bulletins, brochures and flyers to community agencies and individuals in natural community settings. Document activities and record information, such as but not limited to, presentations conducted and numbers of participants. Develop and engage in policy, systems and environmental work around nutrition, aiming to increase the access to fruits and vegetables, community and school gardens, farmer's markets, healthy retail, and more. Collaborate with community organizations to determine community needs relative to nutrition and physical activity needs. Conduct basic program evaluation and data entry. Collect and analyze data to identify community needs prior to implementing programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies and environments. Compile results and develop reports. Perform ongoing planning and scheduling of program requirements based on the work plan. May serve as a resource to assist individuals, providers, and the community. May administer fiscal resources for health education programs. Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as directed. Assist with development of integrated work plan. Perform other duties as required. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Nutrition or closely related field from an accredited university. AND At least one year of experience in the public health or nutrition field, conducting presentations for individuals and groups. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is highly preferred. Travel and attend out of area meetings and conferences as required per the funding source(s). Work variable hours and days, including those outside regular Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. business hours. Meet and maintain KCAO hiring requirements which include: Criminal Record Clearance including California DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse Centralized Index (CACI). Reliable, insured transportation and valid California Driver License. Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) acceptable to KCAO's vehicle insurer. Health examination with tuberculin clearance. Ability to be contacted outside of regularly scheduled work hours in case of emergency.
