The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified individual to run a new unit that will investigate all Discriminatory Harassment (DH) and Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) complaints.Responsibilities: Lead and oversee all investigations related to DH and PREA complaints. Provide legal guidance and assess the Department's litigation risks relative to state and federal civil rights laws, training, litigation, and policy. Review and make recommendations for policy and training changes based on investigation findings. Conduct statutory and legal interpretation and analysis, as needed. Advise Wardens and executive-level staff on legal matters pertaining to DH and PREA investigations. This position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact within the Michigan Department of Corrections by ensuring fair and just investigations into DH and PREA complaints. Hybrid work available, selected candidate would be expected to be in the office 50 percent of the time. Interested applicants should apply here . Preferred Education and Experience: Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and active law license highly preferred. Extensive knowledge of litigation and oversight of investigations. Familiarity with statutes, administrative rules, and policies related to correctional and Civil Rights law. Ability to formulate and implement policies and procedures. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with high-level staff, attorneys, and the public.
